Due to the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of Pakistanis are stranded in different countries. They are unable to reach home because of the suspension of flights. So, in a bid to alleviate the worries of stranded citizens, the officials in Pakistan have finally decided to resume the special flights to bring back the citizens. The flights will be resumed from 11th of May, and would continue to operate until all the passengers are escorted to Pakistan.
Details By The Special Assistant To Prime Minister:
On May 11, Special Assistant to PM on National Security Division Moeed Yusuf briefed media on the possible steps that the government would take. In the briefing, he asked the stuck overseas Pakistanis to carefully follow the guidelines being mentioned in the official COVID-19 Website.
Talking about the number, the Special Assistant said that so far, 20,000 Pakistan had been successfully returned. He also clarified that there were still about 100,000 Pakistanis that needed to be repatriated. The government is planning to bring back around 10,000 people in the upcoming week through PIA Flights. Most of the Pakistani citizens are stuck in the Gulf States, so the government will focus primarily on these countries.
Flights From UK, USA And Africa:
In addition, since the government of USA has allowed Pakistan to operate the special flights, the Pakistani citizens in United Stated would also be brought back. Moeed Yousaf added that Pakistan would also operate flights to Britain, UK, and some African countries. At the end of his briefing, he emphasized the need for everyone to take strict precautionary measures. He said that all the repatriated citizens would be first sent to the quarantine centers where they would be properly checked. Consequently, the citizens would be allowed to return home after spending 14 days in the centers.
