According to a PIA spokeswoman, the inaugural flight from Islamabad to Skardu would take place on June 12, with a one-way fare of Rs25,000. After the legendary mountaineer Ali Sadpara, who died together with two international mountaineers during their bid to scale K2 in the winter, PIA has called this service ‘Sadpara Air Safari.

The Safari trip will depart from the New Islamabad Airport every Saturday and fly over the high K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum peaks, Deosai plains, and the famous Saif ul Maluk lake, according to the national carrier. However, due to operational issues, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has cancelled its scheduled commercial launch of the Safari flight just days after introducing the service. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) gave a TPRI (Tourism Promotion and Regional Integration) license to a newly founded private airline named North Air last week to enhance tourism.

The Sadpara Air Safari, renamed after the great mountaineer Ali Sadpara, would take off every Saturday from the New Islamabad Airport and fly over the snow-capped summits of K2, Nanga Parbat, and the beautiful Saif ul Maluk lake. The complete program will be released in the following days.
According to the spokeswoman, all preparations have been completed, and the itinerary will be revealed in the coming months, adding that Air Safari would help enhance tourism in the country. He said that the national airline PIA (Pakistan International Airlines)had successfully conducted approximately eight flights per day from Skardu airport.
